CQTA06 Expedition to the Uninhabitated Area---Kekexili

Overview

Kekexili lies to the west of Golmud, and is characterized by its vastness,aridness and low temperature.Hundreds of lakes are dispersed in this area, such as Kekexili Lake and Taiyang Lake (covering 100 sq.km). More than 200 species of plants grow in this area including 84 typical Qinghai species. Many wild animals live there including rare Tibetan antelope, wild ass, tetraogallus and uncia. Thus Kekexili is called the largest wild animal paradise in the world.

Route:Peking-Xining-Kokonor-Dulan-Golmud-Xidatan-Wudaoliang-Kekexili-Xining-Peking

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 01 Arrive in Beijing, transfer to the 4* hotel

Day 02 Fly to Xining,1 N in 4* Qinghai Hotel

Xining, 2350 m above sea level, the capital of Qinghai province. This city is mainly inhabited with Tibetan but also a home of Uygur, Kasak and Hui minorities.

Day 03  Drive 440km to Dulan,viewing the fantastic scenery of Kokonor Lake and Chakha Salt Lake,acc.in Xingdu Hotel

After breakfast,we drive westward across Huangyuan,an important town in ancient time.Then over Sun-and-Moon mountain (Ri Yue Shan). In 641 Wencheng princess of Tang Dynasty passed by this mountain where today a sun-pavilion and a moon-pavilion are built on the summit for people to have a break. The Sun-and-Moon mountain has always been an distinguish line between meadow and agriculture area. After that make a short trekking by the Koko Nor lake, the biggest salty lake in China, with an area of 4,500 square kilometers and an altitude of 3,194m high above sea level. The big lake is acclaimed as "pearl on the highland" and the scenery of which is unusually fascinating and appears different shapes even at the same time. "Koko Nor" in Mongolian language means "blue lake" because of the lunar shape and the color of the lake.

Day 04  Drive 360km to Golmud,viewing the landscape of Gobi along the road,acc.in Grand Salt Lake Hotel

Day 05  Drive 140km to Xidatan,where we can see the fantastic view of Yuzhu Peak,camping

Day 06  Drive 140km to Wudaoliang,sightseeing the snow-capped Mt.Kunlun,camping

Day 07  Drive 120km to Zhounai Lake,camping

Day 08  Drive 150km to Taiyang(the sun) Lake,camping

Day 09/10  Expedition in the area of Taiyang Lake,trekking,camping

Day 11/15  Drive 1,340km back to Xining,acc.in Qinghai Hotel

Day 16  Fly to Beijing,acc.in 4* hotel

Day 17  Fly home
